Litigation Associate
Overview
We are looking for a dedicated Litigation Associate with 2 – 3 years of litigation experience to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will have experience in civil litigation, commercial litigation and/or employment law.
The primary responsibility of this role is to carry litigation files from the pleadings phase, discovery, mediation, motions and trial. You will be responsible for ensuring that litigation files progress in a timely and efficient manner, and ensure that clients are regularly updated on the file’s progress, and are provided timely strategic legal advice. As such, the ideal candidate will also have a strong understanding of the civil litigation procedure, excellent attention to detail, and strong written and oral communication skills. In addition, the candidate should have excellent legal research skills.
Responsibilities

Manage client files as directed by the firm

Conduct legal research and initial case assessments

Preparation of legal documents, including pleadings, factas, affidavits, motion records contracts, and correspondence, etc.

Appear at court proceedings of all levels, as needed

Prepare for and conduct examinations for discovery

Assist the senior lawyers as needed

Writing a monthly legal blog

Meticulous attention to detail

Strong organizational skills, including the ability to handle multiple case files, priorities, and deadlines

Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with a client experience focus.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively with supervising lawyers and support staff

Ability to delegate tasks to students-at–law and support staff, as needed
Qualifications and Education Requirements

J.D. or LLB Degree from an accredited law school
-
Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
-
A minimum of 2 – 3 years of legal experience in private practice
